tapeless backup (TLB)

As the name suggests, tapeless backups ( TLB) include the storage techniques where the backup is performed without tape drives, i.e. with hard disk drives. This backup technique can be used for daily data backup, especially since it has advantages in speed and higher data rate, as well as in performance and reliability. Due to the shorter access times compared to tape drives, the hard disk solutions have a higher availability without time-consuming tape changes, the backups can be kept redundant and fail-safe via RAID systems and no previous knowledge is required for operation.

Such tapeless backup systems, which are equipped with Advanced Technology Attachment( ATA), can easily have several terabytes ofstorage capacity.
