system on module (SoM)

The term System-on-Module(SoM) is used in a similar way to Computer on Module(CoM) with the difference that the SoM concept goes further than the CoM concept.

Thus, the latest processor technologies and interface technologies are implemented in the SoM concepts. In this context, COM Express should also be mentioned, a design standardized by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group( PICMG) for System-on-Modules, which is based on PCI Express. This bus is also used by µQseven modules and Smarc modules.

System-on-Modules are more extensive than Computer-on-Modules because complete systems are implemented on one module. Examples of system-on-modules are an Embedded System Module( ESM) and also the single- board computer Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4.
