If many microrobots work in coordination as one system, this is called swarm robotics. Swarm robots organize themselves and together solve a task that a single robot cannot solve.

A swarm of robots can consist of a small team of robots or a hundred or more swarm robots. They operate on the basis of swarm intelligence and exchange information and data with each other. Interactions with others and feedback from other swarm robots supports collective collaboration and promotes decision making, as each individual swarm robot is equipped with its own intelligence that contributes to problem solving.

Swarm robotics is a scientific field of robotics. It deals with the design of micro robots, their networking, the use of intelligence and control mechanisms. The control of the swarm is the responsibility of the interconnected and interactive swarm robots.
