suspend to disk (STD)

Suspend-to-disk (STD) mode is a power managementprogram in which the running program is interrupted and the data stored in memory is saved to the hard disk.

In suspend-to-disk mode, known as hibernation mode, all programs remain in the previous state, which greatly speeds up the startup process when the system is turned back on.

This mode offers some energy-saving potential, especially in portable computers, in laptops and notebooks, because it switches directly from the sleep mode to the application programs.
