The concept of Electronic Supply Chain Management (eSCM) combines the strategic approach of e-business with the strategic approach of Supply Chain Management(SCM).

The possibilities of e-business with e.g. Electronic Data Interchange( EDI) and virtual representation of the entire value chain, leads to a more efficient management of the supply chain. The individual value-added partners benefit from real-timeinformation available throughout the supply chain (Real Time Shared Information) and can thus optimize their use of resources accordingly.

SCM decision management and SCM coordination are thus significantly simplified and made more cost-effective. A synchronized supply chain, electronically aligned with consumer demand, represents a competitive advantage over other traditional value chains.
