super disk

Super disks are rewritable, magnetic storage media that are characterized by a significantly increased storage capacity compared to normal floppy disks, ranging from 40 megabytes( MB) to 2 gigabytes( GB).

Since most super disks are incompatible with each other, they are operated in special drives, although super disks from the same manufacturer are usually drive-compatible. The most important manufacturers are Iomega with the Clik, Jaz and Zip super disks, Compaq with the LS-120 disk, Nomai with 750, Sony with HiFD, and Syquest with EZFlyer, SyJet and Sparq.

The data transfer rates differ considerably from each other and range from 560 kB/s with LS-120 to 7.4 MB/s with the Jaz disk. Integrated Drive Electronics( IDE), Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics( EIDE), Small ComputerSystem Interface( SCSI), the parallel interface and with Sparq the USB interface are supported.
