sub-wavelength switching

In sub-wavelength switching, another multiplexing technique is added compared to wavelength switching: typically that of optical time division multiplexing, which combines multiple traffic streams. This is also referred to as grooming.

By using deterministic or statistical multiplexing, there are various technological approaches such as optical burst switching, optical burst switching (OBS), that of optical data packets, optical packet switching( OPS), or optical time division multiplexing ( OTDM).

Sub-wavelength switching can be used in wavelength routing and is one of three switching techniques in Carrier Ethernet Transport( CET).
