striping

Striping is a mapping technique of disk arrays where data blocks are distributed on two or more hard disks in a rotating system.

In striping, for example, data block "A" is placed on disk 1, data block "B" on 2, data block "C" on 3, and so on. Striping is used in different levels of RAID systems and in Fibre Channel. Fibre Channel is an additional service of Layer 3, where certain information is transferred simultaneously in parallel to several N_Ports over several connections.
