storage over IP (SAN) (SoIP)

Storage over IP (SoIP) is a storage network technology comparable to Storage Area Network( SAN) and Network Attached Storage( NAS). The advantage of this technology is based on proven, mature and widely used technologies and protocols: Ethernet, SCSI and the IP protocol.

Storage over IP is a protocol for transferring storage data over IP networks. This method is intended to extend the expansion limits of Fibre Channel and thus create the conditions for the transmission of SAN data over wide- area networks. In addition to proprietary solutions, there is a SoIP protocol standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF), iSCSI.

Since Ethernet will be further developed in the medium term beyond the existing 10 gigabit data rate, storage networks can be standardized on this basis.
