stop bit
In asynchronous transmission, each n-bit character to be transmitted is followed by a bit that informs the receiver that the transmission of a character has ended. This is the soppbit.
The stop bit is a character-discrete synchronization element that indicates the end of an asynchronous character. Like the start bit, the stop bit can be a single discrete bit, or a bit combination of several bits.
