stop and wait ARQ

Stop-and-Wait ARQ is a variant of the transmission backup according to the Automatic Repeat Request

(ARQ). With Stop-and-Wait ARQ, an acknowledgement is issued for each individual data block before the next data block can be transmitted. The method has a lower data throughput than Continuous ARQ, for example, but is less prone to errors. Examples of Stop and Wait ARQ are Medium Speed Version (MSV) and the Bisynchronous Procedure (BSC).
