standardised transcoding interface (STI)

The Standardised TranscodingInterface (STI) is an interface between the Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) and a transcoding server

. The STI interface, specified by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), is used to transmit encoded messages

to the transcoding server for transcoding. Themessages created by the user agents

, themobile phones, smartphones, netbooks

or other terminals are transferred from the Multimedia Messaging Service Center via the Standardised Transcoding Interface to the Transcoding Server, which reformats them so that they can be displayed by receiving devices with other display formats. The Transcoding Server can be an internal or external transcoder.

It can also be a proxy that is integrated into the MMSC via the MM1 interface.
