standard for interoperable LAN/MAN security (SILS)

The Standard for Interoprable LAN/WANSecurity (SILS) was developed in the IEEE working group 802 .10 and defines a security structure for IEEE 802 protocols. SILS provides for extensions in the LAN area that lie between the Medium Access Control (MAC) and the Logical Link Control (LLC). An additional security layer is added there, the security sublayer, on which Secure Data Exchange (SDE) resides as a protocol.
