standard for interoperable LAN/MAN security (802.10) (SILS)

The Standard for Interoprable LAN/WAN Security (SILS) was developed in the IEEE802.10working group and defines a security structure for IEEE 802 protocols. SILS provides for extensions in the LAN area that lie between the Medium Access Control( MAC) and the Logical Link Control( LLC). An additional security layer is added there, the security sublayer, on which Secure Data Exchange( SDE) resides as a protocol.
