speed transparency

Speed transparency is the ability of communication networks in which a network component adjusts the transmission speeds between two connections

with different speeds. Speed adaptation occurs, for example, in the store-and-forward method

by buffering thedata and forwarding it at the data rate

that the slower connection can accept. Speed transparency exists to a certain extent only in asynchronous transmission methods, as specified in ITU recommendations V.21 and V.23.
