speed transparency

Speed transparency is the ability of communication networks in which a network component adjusts the transmission speeds between two connections with different speeds.

Speed adaptation occurs, for example, in the store-and-forward method by buffering the data and forwarding it at the data rate that the slower connection can accommodate.

Speed transparency exists to a certain extent only with asynchronous transmission methods, as specified in ITU RecommendationsV.21 and V.23.
