special interest group (SIG)

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a user group

or organization that has a particular interest in a special topic. The term Special Interest Group was formerly reserved exclusively for computer technology and its applications, but is increasingly used by standardization bodies for special interest groups. For Bluetooth, for example, there is the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (BSIG) or the Weightless Special Interest Group.
