source route bridging (SRB)

Source RouteBridging (SRB) is a routing procedure developed by IBM for token ring networks according to IEEE 802.5. In the SRB procedure, the optimum route through the network is determined by sending out broadcasts. For this purpose, data packets generated in a local area network( LAN) are transported back and forth between several local or remote LAN segments and the bridge numbers of the individual bridges are stored. The advantage of this technique, together with Source Routing Transparent( SRT), lies in its precise definition. Problems lie in the deterministic routing paths, static routing and the lack of optimization of routing paths.
