social networking policy (SNP)

Due to the intertwining of social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or WhatsApp with business communication, companies have established guidelines for employee use and access to social networks in the workplace. These policies are the Social Networking Policies (SNP).

SNP policies are about not posting internal company information to social networks and not allowing outsiders to access company information through social networks. There are various considerations that show up in a wide variety of policies. These range from enabling and full use, to controlled use, to blocking the relevant Internet services.

No matter what strategy companies implement regarding social networks, in general, companies must have full control. Decisions should also take into account that social networks can also be used as corporate tools; they can improve the company's image and its reputation and generate additional orders.
