sneakernet

A sneakernet is, in jargon, a sneaker network in which the data is not transferred via physically connected computers

, but where the data transfer is still physical. With a sneakernet, the electronic information is stored on a storage unit - which can be a USB stick, magnetic tape, floppy or compact disc (CD) - that is carried from one personal computer to another, physically. With sneakernets, the criteria that are important with local networks, such as latency or ping time, cannot be applied.
