slew rate (SR)

The slew rate(SR) is a characteristic value of amplifiers that characterizes the maximum change of the output voltage in relation to the input voltage.

Slew Rate from Voltage Change to Time Difference

The slew rate is a measure with which the output voltage of an amplifier follows an input voltage change. It is determined by applying a step signal with an extremely short rise time and relatively high amplitude to the input of the amplifier and measuring the output voltage change.

Such an input signal that jumps to its maximum value without any significant rise time will cause a voltage change at the amplifier output that results in a slower rise due to the amplifier stages with their time constants. The output voltage change is related to time, i.e. volts per second (V/s) and referred to as slew rate.
