A slave is a data station
that is controlled by another station, the master station. As a rule, this is a master-slave constellation in which the higher-level master station takes over tasks from the lower-level slave stations. In a master-slave operation, the slave station itself only performs the tasks assigned to it by the master station and only sends data
to the master station on request. Slaves are usually simple stations that are often used in sensor networks and fieldbuses and communicate with the master via the latter.
