signal to quantization noise ratio (SQNR)

The Signal to Quantization Noise Ratio (SQNR) is used to determine the quality of A/D converters when converting analog signals. It is defined as the ratio of the signal voltage to the noise voltage and is specified in decibels ( dB). The dB value corresponds approximately to 6 times the number of quantization bits. With a resolution of 16 bits, the SQRN value is 96 dB, with 24 bits 144 dB.
