short wavelength infrared (SWIR)

All infrared light is divided into different wavelength ranges, namely the wavelengths for near infrared

, Near Infrared (NIR), short wavelength infrared, Short Wavelength Infrared (SWIR), medium wavelength infrared, Mid Wavelength Infrared (MWIR) and long wavelength infrared, Long Wavelength Infrared (LWIR).

Overview of Infrared Ranges

Overview of Infrared Ranges

Short Wavelength Infrared (SWIR) has wavelengths between 1.0 µm and 3.0 µm. The wavelength of 1.3 µm is used, among other things, for optical transmission in optical fib ers because it lies in the second optical window. The wavelength range between 1,400 nm and 1,500 nm is considered eye-safe and is used in measurement technology. In addition, sunlight is relatively weak in this wavelength range and therefore only a small amount of background radiation occurs.
