Shareware are freely available programs that can be retrieved and tested for a certain time. After that, they must either be deleted or licensed for regular use. Corresponding programs are also referred to as demoware.

The user receives a version of the program reduced by some features, which he can use for a certain duration and also pass on. If the user wants the full version, license fees are charged.
