session initiation protocol for telephones (SIP-T)

The Session Initiation Protocol for Telephones(SIP-T) is used to interpret signaling information from ISDN using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

The SIP-T protocol transports information for the SS7 signaling of the ISDN User Part( ISUP). The transmission with the SIP protocol is done by including the ISUP information into the SIP user data. Routing in IP networks is also possible if certain route information is included in the SIP header.

The procedure was issued by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) and is described in RFC 3372.
