session ID

A session ID is an identification number used to associate user requests with a session. Session IDs are generated by the server and assigned to a session as soon as a user makes a request.

The session ID can be used to access the data stored on the server for the last session. This has advantages in online business because the browser uses the session ID to recognize the goods viewed and placed in the shopping cart during the last session. User identification is ensured by the session ID, which is transmitted to the server with every request.

Session IDs can be stored in cookies or in the Uniform Resource Identifier( URI). If there is no cookie yet, then the session IDs are assigned when the web page is called up. If the user does not allow cookies, the session ID can be appended to the web page's Internet address.
