service management layer (SML)

The Service Management Layer (SML) is one of five logical layers of Fault, Configuration, Account, Performance, and Security (FCAPS) in Telecommunications Control Networks

(TMN). The SML layer provides services to customers and international users that address the implementation of new services, quality of service, transmission costs, order processing, billing, monitoring of services and quality of service agreements, and marketing objectives. An example of this is quality of service management, which takes into account delay times, jitter and packet loss.
