service information (DVB) (SI)

DigitalVideo Broadcast(DVB) knows two services that are used for storing television broadcasts: the Program Specific Information( PSI) and the Service Information( SI).

While the PSI information describes the DVB data stream with its services, the service information deals with the programs and their contents. The SI information is stored in several tables. For example, one table contains information about the transmitters or transponders, their frequencies and their language- the Service Description Table( SDT). Another describes the program content with the start and end times of a broadcast, this is called the Event Information Table( EIT).

When changing channel assignments or program names, the set-top box uses the SI information and can accept the changes without a search.
