server load balancing (SLB)
Server Load Balancing (SLB) is a concept for simplifying, scaling and making server performance more flexible in terms of its expandability and customer access.
In the SLB concept, a redundancy procedure in which the network element or server has a dual connection, the user's data traffic is controlled in such a way that several servers appear to the user as a single one. The SLB concept consists of a virtual server, which in turn consists of multiple real servers, and switches that act as server load balancers to control traffic across multiple connections from the clients to the virtual server.
When a network element is overloaded or a fault occurs, the SLB process detects it in 500 ms to 2 s and initializes an overload-free connection within 100 ms.
Load balancing is used for scaling and flexibilization of server farms and virtual servers in content management, such as web servers.
