A server appliance is a server equipped with special software and optimized for simple customer tasks. Appliances are based on a simple design principle that supports only one or a few functions.

Appliances are pre-installed and can be operated immediately after connection to the network. They can be easily and quickly deployed anywhere on the network.

Appliance servers are used for file serving, caching, network attached storage( NAS), web hosting, web services, security, Internet traffic flow management and messaging, among others. The main advantages of appliance servers are simple administration, high reliability and fast availability. The total cost of ownership( TCO), support and maintenance costs are significantly lower than for multifunctional servers.
