serial access memory (SAM)

A Serial Access Memory (SAM) is a memory or serial port in a multiport memory. Data access is serial. In multiport memories, data can be read out via the SAM port while data is simultaneously written in via another port. Such SAM memories are used, for example, in Video RAMs ( VRAM). The serially read data generates the video signal in the downstream DA converter. The access via the SAM interface is quite high and is over 100 MB/s.
