selection combining (space diversity) (SC)

Selection Combining(SC) is one of several methods of spatial diversity of multi- antenna systems. Another method is switched combining.

In Selection Combining, the field strength of all antenna signals is measured and the signal with the highest field strength and the best signal-to- noise ratio is used. As soon as one of the other antenna signals has a higher field strength than the used signal, the stronger signal is used as receive signal. With the Selection Combining system of three antennas, the antenna gain improves by 2.6 dB.
