screened shielded twisted pair (S/STP)
The S/STP cable, Screened Shielded Twisted Pair (S/STP), is a variant of the STP cable in which the individual wire pairs are sheathed with a braided shield.
In addition, the entire cable strand with its four wire pairs is sheathed by a further braided shield. The double braided shielding improves the characteristic values for the interference radiation and the mutual crosstalk from one pair of cores to the others, which are indicated by NEXT and FEXT. The situation is different for the U/STP cable where the wire pairs are shielded but there is no overall shielding.
