scanning velocity (SVY)

Scanning velocity (SVY) is the rotational speed of compact discs (CDs) and DVDs

in

relation to

the read head.Scanning velocity (SVY) is the speed at which spiral tracks pass through the read head. For compact discs, the scanning velocity is between 1.2 m/s and 1.4 m/s. For DVDs, the scanning velocity depends on the head speed. For DVDs, the scanning velocity depends on whether the disc is a single layer

disc (SL), which has a speed of 3.49 m/s, or a double layer disc (DL), which has a scanning velocity of 3.84 m/s. The rotational speed is measured and adjusted at several points on the compact disc during rotation.

The deviations must not exceed 0.01 m/s.
