Circular connectors are multipole round connectors with screw locking and shielding. Depending on the protection class (IP) and EMC requirements, they can have one or more shields. They are offered shielded and unshielded.
Circular connectors differ mainly in the number of plug contacts, the type of shielding and locking. As a rule, they have a screw lock.
As far as the number of plug contacts and the size are concerned, the diameter of 3-, 4- and 6-pole circular connectors is 7 mm, for 9-, 10- and 12-pole connectors it is 10 mm. Depending on the design, circular connectors are made of plastic or metal and are equipped with one or two shields. They can be waterproof and meet protection class IP-67 or dustproof and meet protection class IP-40. Better known circular connectors used in communication technology are the M connectors M 8, M12, M23, M25 and 7/8".
Circular connectors ensure secure connections and are suitable for load currents of several amperes (A).
