reverse domain name system (rDNS)

Reverse DNS (rDNS) is used to convert IP addresses into domain names in DNS systems. With normal DNS, the domain name is converted into an IP address. The technique of reverse DNS is used, among other things, in spam filters to block invalid domain names.
