return to zero code (RZ)

The Return to Zero Code (RZ) is a message transmission code that is essentially equivalent to Non Return to Zero

(NRZ), with the difference that the High signal returns to 0 after half the bit interval.

The low signal is not encoded. The clock synchronization of the receiver can be done by the switching edge of the coded high signal, but it is not safe for long bit sequences. Also, for long 0 or 1 sequences, the DC component may change. The inverted version of the Return to Zero code is Return to Zero Inverted (RZ-I).
