response time

The response time is a characteristic value for the switching process of pixels in displays. Since the response time stands for the change of state of a pixel, it influences the refresh rate. If the response time of a pixel is high, then the refresh rate is limited to lower values because otherwise streaks form in the display.

If the response time is shorter, the refresh rate can be increased accordingly.

The response time of LCD displays and TFT displays can be determined as Black-White-Time( BWT), which is the black-to-white time, or as Grey-to-Grey-Time (GTG). The latter is usually specified in practice because it is less than half of the BWT time. Black-to-white time is the passage of a complete light-to-dark-to-light display cycle from black to white to black.
