remote data processing (RDP)

The term remote data processing (DFV) dates back to the 1980s and is hardly used anymore. Remote Data Processing ( RDP) was a special form of data processing.

Remote data processing included the processing and transmission of data and allowed the use of a data processing system over any spatial distance and is described in DIN 44302.

The data processing methods used in remote data processing distinguished between batch processing, in which data is transmitted, processed and retransmitted in separate work steps, and real-time processing, in which all the work necessary for processing data, including data transmission, is performed directly.
