In semiconductor technology, the flow of information takes place through electrons and false electrons. The latter are also called holes.

Electrons have a negative charge. The ions formed by spurious electrons, on the other hand, have a positive charge. When holes and electrons meet, they cancel each other out; they recombine and are no longer available for current transmission.

Recombination is a reversal of ionization.
