ready to send (RTS)

Ready to Send (RTS) is a control signal with which a transmitting data terminal equipment (DTE) indicates to a receiving datatransmission equipment (DCE) that it is ready to transmit data.

The RTS signal is used to control a transmit and receive operation during data transmission and is used in the collisionless access methodCSMA/CA in 802.11.

In 802.11, when a subscriber sends a Ready to Send signal to the base station, it must first wait for its Clear to Send(CTS) control signal before it can transmit.
