The Rate Increase Factor (RIF) is an ABR service parameter

. The Rate Increase Factor (RIF) determines the permissible increase in the data rate in ATM networks when an underload is signaled via RM cells. Only switches that set the Explicit Forward Congestion Indication (EFCI) and Explicit Rate (ER) should reduce the RIF value as a function of the Peak Cell Rate (PCR) must as the Peak Cell Rate (PCR) increases.
