rate increase factor (ATM) (RIF)

The Rate Increase Factor (RIF) is an ABR service parameter.

The Rate Increase Factor (RIF) determines the permissible increase of the data rate in ATM networks when an underload is signaled via RM cells. Only switches that set the Explicit Forward Congestion Indication( EFCI) and the Explicit Rate( ER) should reduce the RIF value as a function of the Peak Cell Rate ( PCR) must when the Peak Cell Rate (PCR) increases.
