radio broadcast data system (RBDS)

Radio BroadcastDataSystem (RBDS) is the name for the US Radio Data System

(RDS). The two standards

are nearly identical, differing only slightly in the labeling of the 31 music channels and in other program formatting. Both radio text systems use a 57 kHzsubcarrier over which data is transmitted at 1.18 kbps. The 57 kHz subcarrier frequency corresponds to the third harmonic of the pilot tone. This results in no interference or intermodulation with the pilot tone or the stereo signal at 38 kHz.
