queuing management

Queuing management is intended to reduce the impact of a congestion situation on a link. The management is to guarantee a certain minimum throughput for traffic-sensitive traffic flows. For this purpose, data packets with DSCP(Differential Service Code Point) parameters, IP addresses or TCP port numbers are set in the queues, since the individual queuing methods differ in the processing of the queues. FIFO queuing, for example, offers only one queue that operates according to the First In First Out (FIFO) principle. This means that data packets that were processed first are also delivered first.

With custom queuing, up to 16 queues can be set up, which receive a share of the available bandwidth. This share is determined by the number of data packets that are taken from the queue in a round-robin process.

Priority Queuing( PQ) works by prioritizing data packets. Queues containing data packets with high priority are always processed before those containing low priority packets. This method has advantages for connections with real-time services such as Internet telephony( VoIP). These delay-sensitive services always have priority over other types of traffic.

The management of Weighted Fair Queuing(WFQ) and Class Based Weighted Fair Queuing( CBWFQ) is aimed at prioritizing voice information and thus at optimizing transmission bandwidth, as well as at forming traffic classes, according to input interfaces or according to Access Lists ( ACL).
