Quarter Common Intermediate Format (QCIF) has one quarter of the resolution of the CIF display format. In Europe, this corresponds to a resolution of 176 x 144 pixels.
A total of 25,344 pixels can be displayed with QCIF; 21,120 in the USA.
The aspect ratio of QCIF is 11:9. For color displays, the resolution of the QCIF color image is 88 x 72 pixels and the data rate for an uncompressed color image is 9.1 Mbps. The QCIF resolution can be found in the displays of UMTS cell phones and TV phones. Sub QCIF( SQCIF) has a lower image resolution with 128 × 96 pixels. QCIF is supported by H.261 and H.263 and is defined in the H.323 standard for video codecs.
