quantum flow control (QFC)

Quantum Flow Control (QFC) is a flow control technique for applications with intermittent traffic that uses the Available Bit Rate (ABR) to instantly access free bandwidth with an extremely low cell loss rate.

QFC is said to achieve much better bandwidth utilization than traffic-based control, especially for WAN links. The QFC approach is based on the control of available memory in the ingress buffer of each receiver, allowing direct flow control from one receiver to the next, i.e. hop to hop. The QFC approach is specifically aimed at WAN connections with many intermediate nodes.
