qualifier bit (q-bit)

The Q bit, the qualifier bit, is used in X.25data packets and is used, among other things, to distinguish between data packets for user data and control data

. The Q bit is used in connection with the ITU-T recommendation X.29 and can address different processes in higher layers of the end systems. For example, the Q bit in the X.29 protocol is used to distinguish between control data for the packetizer/depacketizer (PAD) and user data for the data terminal equipment (DTE).
