pulse noise

Pulse noise can have a wide variety of causes. In general, it is interference caused by transient voltage peaks in the useful signal. These can originate, for example, from unsuppressed overvoltages from the power supply, but can also be caused by firing relay contacts. When such disturbances occur in the audio range, they are perceived as crackling, crashing or popping.
