# pseudo random function (PRF)

Random number functions, Pseudo Random Function (PRF), are used in encryption methods to generate a key. With the Pseudo Random Function (PRF) random numbers

are generated at all outputs of such a circuit, independent of the corresponding input. The random number functions can be used, for example, to extend the length of key functions. The pseudo random function is used, among other things, in Transport Layer Security

(TLS). Pseudo random functions are also referred to askey

derivation functions (KDF) when they are used to derivea

separate key.
